HARPERS OF IRELAND AT DÁIL TO SAVE TARA

On Saturday 22nd September 2007 at 3 p.m. the harpers of Ireland will gather at Dáil Éireann to demonstrate publicly the strength of their opposition to the destruction of historic cultural sites at the Tara/Skryne Valley as a result of the current route of the M3 motorway. The harpers will assemble with their harps along Kildare Street, and will submit a petition to Minister John Gormley insisting he implement alternatives to the continued destruction which is taking place.

Ireland is unique in having a musical instrument, the harp, as its national emblem. This indicates the primacy of the harp in Irish culture. The sites currently under threat are inextricably linked with the harping and bardic traditions for more than 2,500 years.

Tara was the gathering place for thousands of harpers to 142 kings, and the harp was an integral part of the ancient Irish parliament at Tara. The harp has been used in the coat of arms of Ireland since 1270 and is the symbol of the Irish State today. It is found in the seals of the President, Taoiseach, Tánaiste, Government Ministers, on State currency and is the insignia of the Irish Law Courts.
It is an outrage that the Irish people should be forced to choose between infrastructure and heritage. As a country we are embarrassed internationally by profit-driven, shortsighted planning as exemplified by the fact that World Monument Fund has placed Tara on its list of 100 most endangered sites worldwide.
Many can rightly point out that it would be an archaeological loss, and a historical one. It is also a spiritual loss, since even before the conversion by St Patrick of Ireland’s High Kings it was a place where the Irish sought to express their spirituality. And significantly for us as a nation, it was the place of birth of Christianity in Ireland. The gathering of harpers says that it is also a musical and cultural loss and asserts that the sound of Tara’s harp will not be drowned by traffic jams and the cash registers of toll plazas.

A CALL TO ALL WARRIORS

Get ya arse to tara this tues!!!

A Call From
The Ancient City Of
Tara
To Gather All Warriors Of The Earth
To Defend And Sanctify
The Valley of The White Mare

Your Presence is Urgently Needed On
Tuesday 7Th August

This place in county Meath Ireland is the location of a recently discovered Prehistoric Wood Henge

This Henge is the oldest astronomical observatory yet found anywhere in the world

The Irish Government M3 Motorway is routed directly through the Henge and a further one hundred and forty plus sacred sites. Common sense will tell you that the valley is of profound importance locally, nationally and internationally. Initial excavations by archaeological consultancy services Ltd (funded by the NRA national roads authority) revealed a ceremonial burial chamber at the centre of the 80m diameter complex. The grave contained the bones of a woman adorned with gold necklace and bracelets. It also contained the bones of a large hunting dog and horse. She had been buried with the utmost respect and full ceremonial honours. A Queen or Priestess of high regard. These remains have been removed and relocated to A.C.S Ltds warehouse on the outskirts of Dublin. No mention of this reached the media Why??
We Need You Now!
The Tara Skyrne valley is a key to all of our pasts
The NRA plans to move on the Henge on Tuesday 7th August
At 5Am
If we cannot show our presence in physical numbers this sacred Site will be gone
Forever

Been watching you guys fight the fight on those videos. Was thinking
that I know a few activists here in the US who have done major stuff.
I would love to put you in touch with them as they can show you a few
tricks where you can stop all work, and not get physically removed
from the site until you desire.
One such activist is called John Quigley. Although American, his
ancestors are Foley's and Quigley's. He is an international aerial
artist who has created work for many diverse and important issues.
He wants to do an aerial art piece for Tara at the Equinox -September
21st. I will also be there, schedule permitting. We are thinking this
might be another way to strengthen awareness to the cause.
If you don't mind I would love to introduce you to him and let him
explain what he wants to do. I have told him you are the authority on
the issue of Tara and the M3 and he would love to get your insight
into the situation. Also he will be able to help with direct action
techniques.
Check out his website and you will get a sense of what we could do at
Tara. And if you give me the go-ahead I will give him your email to
make contact.
Thanks

As far as I can figure out the situation the government has instructed
the SIAC pigs in Navan to arrest as many protesters às possible and
drag them before the courts. I have the feeling that all charges will
be dropped eventually, or some more symbolic sentence like "keeping
the peace for 3 months" may be imposed. But they will be dragging out
this decision for quite some time to keep the protesters restricted
with strict bail conditions as long as possible or as long as the
current construction phase takes to be concluded. Chances are that
they will increase their attempts to arrest potential protesters over
the next days or weeks. This of course is highly unconstitutional,
but "our" government has long since abandoned the constitution, and
what we are now dealing with are criminal elements and traitors in
Leinster House and in the Irish law enforcement community. The scum of
the earth they are!

*17 JULY 2007-URGEMT UPDATE..... PRESS RELEASE

CAMPAIGN TO SAVE TARA
SIX ENVIROMENTAL PROTESTERS ARRESTED AT M3 SITES
Six conservationists were arrested this morning at the site of the
proposed M3
motorway in the Tara/Skryne Valley. Among those arrested was Dr. Muireann Ni one of the spokespersons of the Save Tara Campaign. The arrests
were made at the site of the proposed Blundlestown interchange within 1km of
the top of the Hill of Tara. The trouble was sparked when construction
workers
from the SIAC/Ferrovial conglomerate attempted to set up a new depot in the
middle of the Valley.
A number of the protesters were injured when security contractors
dragged them
away from machinery. The Gardai at the sites did nothing to protect the
peaceful protesters from being assaulted. The Save Tara campaign denies the
allegations that it blocked traffic today on the M3.
Donagh Maguire, one of those present said:'What happened today was that we
blocked access to work sites, when this happens SIAC/Ferrovial know how to
present us in the maximum nagative light - they simply switch off their
engines
and block the public road. How can this be legal, why are the Guards not
doing
anything about this?'
According to Dr. Ni Bhrolchain, ‘Only last week the EU declared work on
the M3
to be illegal and it is deeply ironic that peaceful heritage and
environmental
campaigners are now being arrested for simply pointing out the illegality of
what is going on. We now have a situation whereby our Gardai, instead of
enforcing the law, are actually arresting people for trying to halt an
illegal
activity.’
The protesters have been demanding that all work stop in the Valley
section of
the route until a full, independent archaeological assessment of the
proposed
route is undertaken. In addition the EU issued an unprecedented warning
to the
Irish Government that the road scheme requires a new Environmental Impact
Assessment following the discovery of a National Monument at Lisullen,
directly
in the path of the proposed motorway.
The EU claims that this new discovery constitutes a ‘material change in
circumstance’ and therefore a new assessment must be carried out before work
can legally continue. Minister for Environment, John Gormley had previously
stated that it was just such a change in circumstance that was required
for him
to review the route.
Michael Canney of the Save Tara campaign said today; ‘How can the
minister say
one week that what he requires is a ‘material change in circumstance’
and stand
back the following week and claim that he can still do nothing when the EU
clearly says that such a change has in fact occurred. Why has the
Minister made
no effort whatsoever to implement EU environmental legislation and do
something
to avert the environmental and heritage disaster that is this proposed
road?’
For verification call Michael Canney on 086 8528200

Irish Times
Prosecution warning to Hill of Tara campsite protesters
Frank McDonald, Environment Editor
July 17th 2006

A group of protesters against the controversial M3 motorway have been
told by the Garda that they could be prosecuted for setting up a
"solidarity camp" on the Hill of Tara.

Acting at the behest of the Office of Public Works (OPW), Garda
officers visited the site on Saturday and warned the campers that they
could be charged under the 2002 Housing Act, which criminalises
trespass on public or private land.

TaraWatch, which is campaigning against plans to route the M3 past the
Hill of Tara, said people had camped there for decades and none had
been prosecuted. It said the Act was being "used as a subterfuge to
suppress free speech".

In this case, TaraWatch spokeswoman Siobhán Rice said the core group
of six or seven people who set up the camp had been threatened with
prosecution, "not because of what they are doing, but what they are
saying, which is to save Tara".

"TaraWatch welcomes the action taken by these campers and thanks them
for their brave expression of support for the campaign to re-route the
M3 away from the Tara complex", she said, calling on members of the
public to visit the camp and show their support.

In a statement, those involved in the protest said it was "a people's
solidarity camp", independent of any campaign or political party. "We
welcome any friends of Tara to our solstice vigil fire, which has been
burning since the summer solstice," they added.

According to TaraWatch, the campers have said that they intend to
remain on the hill to "perform and complete a religious ceremony"
which would conclude on August 2nd. "This right to exercise their
religious beliefs is protected in Irish law", it said.

A spokesman for the OPW said it normally did not permit people to camp
on heritage sites, but made an exception for those who wanted to camp
on the Hill of Tara for the solstice on June 21st. "When they stayed
on and refused to move, we notified the gardaí".

The spokesman said there were no camping facilities or running water
on the site, so there was an issue of hygiene involved.

When asked if the Garda had been requested to intervene because the
group was protesting against the M3, he said: "Not at all".

CAMPAIGN TO SAVE TARA
SIX ENVIROMENTAL PROTESTERS ARRESTED AT M3 SITES :)
Michael Canney of the Save Tara campaign said today; ‘How can the
minister say

and stand
back the following week and claim that he can still do nothing when the EU
clearly says that such a change has in fact occurred. Why has the

The attack on the sacred valley in the Royal Celtic City of Tara and the destruction of a series of huge monuments including the gigantic Henge at Lismullin (beside Opus Dei's HQ) has been given the go-ahead by outgoing Minister Dick Roche.

Mr Roche said he signed the order on the advice of the Director of the National Museum, Dr Pat Wallace. It is well known that Dr Wallace has a fake archaeology qualification from an bogus American website - so advice from him must be to tow the party line. Muireann Ní Bhrolcháin of the Campaign to Save Tara condemned Mr Roche's actions. "Tara is not only one of the 100 most endangered sites now. It is the most endangered landscape in the world."

The new Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government is Green Party TD John Gormley. I am asking you and your friends, networks and associates to write, email and phone the one man who actually has the power to Save Tara Valley - John Gormley. As the newly elected and responsible Minister he now has the power under the National Monuments Acts, Section 14A (4) (d), introduced in 2004, where according to Section 22 of the Interpretation Act, 2005, a Minister has the power to revoke or amend previous directions.

This section reads: "A power conferred by an enactment to make a statutory instrument shall be read as including a power, exercisable in the like manner and subject to the like consent and conditions (if any), to repeal or amend a statutory instrument made under that power and (where required) to make another statutory instrument in place of the one so repealed." Mr Gilmore of the Labour Party said, "It is clear therefore that Minister Gormley has the power! to reverse Mr Roche's order and he should do so immediately."

**Please contact John Gormley - subject "Save Tara Valley" and advise him that he has this power and then ask politely that that he uses this power (as given above) to stop all development work in Tara Valley, to re-route the M3 and thereby Saves Tara Valley, making it into a World Heritage Park. UNESCO will be delighted. Generations will thank him and you.

His contact details are -
John Gormley Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Dáil Éireann, Leinster House, Dublin 2. Phone (Work): 01-6184247 Phone (Mobile): 087-2756135

*Good/Right Seth,

Here's the latest on the MARCH and the Petition:
Last Updated: 21/07/2007 16:37
Motorway protestors stage march
Campaigners took to the streets of Dublin today to voice their
opposition to plans to build the M3 motorway through the historic Tara
valley
The event organisers TaraWatch said that more than 1,000 people had
participated in the 'Love Tara' march.
Marchers carrying the flags of all 32 counties gathered at the Gardens
of Remembrance and marched up O'Connell St and to the Department of the
Environment at the Custom House.
A plan to hand in a petition of 50,000 signatures calling on the
Taoiseach and the Minister for the Environment John Gormley to re-route
the M3 motorway from Tara had to be scrapped as there was no-one there
to accept the petition.
The orgainsers said the planned to send an email to the Minister instead
directing him to view the online petition signatures and comments and
deliver the written petition on Monday.
"The march was well attended, peaceful and powerful. The Gardai were
very helpful and friendly and the crowd were very positive," Laura
Grealish of TaraWatch said.
"Apparently Minister Gormley is getting annoyed at people saying that he
does have the power to change the M3 route. Perhaps that explains why
there were no Green Party representatives at the march today, unlike
previous ones," she said.
"We filled O'Connell Street," said Vincent Salafia of Tara Watch.
"A flag from each of the 32 counties was carried during the march, and I
think there was someone from every county representing them too.
"It was very successful and we worked closely with gardai who said they
were pleased with the crowd.
"We didn't want the chance of any problems or anybody sabotaging the march."
This afternoon, a smaller group of campaigners will move their protest
to Cloverhill Prison, where four conservationists are being held after
being arrested while picketing at the site earlier this week.

Tara Watch is presenting a petition of 50,000 signatures to the
Department of the Environment as part of their dispute over the M3 motorway.
The group is calling on the Minister for the Environment, John Gormley,
to re-route the motorway away from the Hill of Tara site.
The petition is part of the Love Tara march, which is now underway in

Spokesman Vincent Salafia says the march is the last chance for the
public to show their support for the preservation of the Hill of Tara.

middle of the Valley.
Why has the
Minister made
no effort whatsoever to implement EU environmental legislation and do
something
to avert the environmental and heritage disaster that is this proposed
road?’

SAVE TARA PROTESTORS… WEDNESDAY JULY 25 2007

M3 - IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A HOT SPOT

AN M3 PROTESTER ON TOP OF A DIGGER AT SOLDIER HILL
Attached File  TARA_PROTESTOR_ON_MACHINE_PHOTO.jpg   33.02KB   59 downloads

IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A HOTSPOT - WHERE THE NEW M3 CROSSES THE OLD N3 AT THE BOTTOM OF SOLDIER HILL, CLOSE TO LISMULLIN AND GARLOW CROSS, THE SITE OF THE PROPOSED BLUNDELSTOWN INTERCHANGE. SO IT WAS NO SURPRISE THAT ONCE THE M3 CONSTRUCTION WORKERS MOVED IN ON THE SITE LAST WEEK THE SAVE TARA CAMPAIGNERS WERE ON-SITE AS QUICKLY.

THEY HAVE BEEN KEEPING VIGIL FROM THEIR TENTED COMMUNITY ON THE SIDE OF THE HILL OF TARA, WATCHING SITES OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE LIKE LISMULLIN AND THE BLUNDELSTOWN AREA, SCENE OF LAST WEEK’S UNREST.

SIAC CONSTRUCTION, THE MAIN CONTRACTORS FOR THE MOTORWAY, MOVED THEIR MACHINERY ONTO THE SITE EARLY ON WEDNESDAY MORNING. BY MID-MORNING, AS LARGE TRUCKS TRIED TO ENTER THE SITE FOR EARTH REMOVAL, THERE WAS A STAND-OFF AS PROTESTORS ATTEMPTED TO BLOCK THE ENTRANCE TO THE SITE, WHICH WAS CORDONED OFF BY HIGH WIRE SECTIONS MANNED BY SECURITY MEN AND CONSTRUCTION WORKERS.

ONE PROTESTOR HAD INFILTRATED THE SECURITY AND HAD MADE HIS WAY UP ON THE ROOF OF A MACHINE, WHERE HE SPENT THE MORNING ISSUING INDIAN-STYLE HOLLERS. ALLEGED INJURY TO A CONSTRUCTION WORKER BY A SUPPOSED BELT OF A RUCKSACK AND THE ROAD BLOCKAGE LED TO THE ARRIVAL OF TWO NAVAN GARDAI, WHO DONNED BOOTS TO ENTER THE SITE COMPOUND ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

REGULAR ROAD-USERS WERE DELAYED AS THE TRUCKS WERE HELD UP AND EVENTUALLY A COUPLE OF LARGE TRUCKS WERE ALLOWED ONTO THE SITE.

ALL THE TIME, PROTESTORS TRIED TO GET BY THE WALL OF WORKERS IN HIGH-VIZ JACKETS ONTO THE SITE. ONE SAT ON THE GROUND WITH HIS FEET AGAINST THE WIRE.
MORE FUN WAS PREDICTED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AS AT LEAST FOUR TRUCKLOADS OF STONE WERE DUE AT 11.30AM.

THE PROTESTORS WERE NOW SWELLING IN NUMBER FROM THE HALF DOZEN ORIGINALLY KNOCKING ABOUT. TWO FEMALES ARRIVED, ONE WHOOPING AND CHEERING. DURING A SKIRMISH AT THE ENTRANCE WAY, SHE GOT PAST SECURITY AND RAN OUT ONTO THE SITE WHERE SHE JUMPED ACROSS A BANK AND CHEERED AND WAVED BACK AT HER FELLOW PROTESTORS.

ANOTHER PROTESTOR, COMPLETE WITH HIS HARD HAT AND HIGH-VIZ VEST OVER AN OFFALY GAA JERSEY, DECLARED THAT HE HIMSELF WAS A HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER, AND SOUGHT ACCESS TO THE SITE. HE HAD A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO GO ONTO THE SITE. AND IT WAS AN ILLEGAL WORKPLACE ONCE THERE WERE PROTESTORS ON THE SITE, HE TOLD THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AND SECURITY MEN.

FURTHER UP, ANOTHER PROTESTOR HAD GOT THROUGH THE HEDGE AND RAN OUT ONTO THE SITE. THREE MEN IN HIGH-VIZ JACKETS RAN AFTER HIM. THEY CAUGHT UP WITH HIM AND BEGAN TO MOVE HIM OFF. ‘SIT DOWN, SIT DOWN’, SHOUTED MUIREANN NI BHROLCHAIN, ONE OF THE PROTESTORS, FROM THE ROADSIDE.

HE DIDN’T, AND WAS MOVED OFF-SITE. THE FIRST GIRL WAS CARRIED OFF BY WORKERS, STILL CHEERING AND WHOOPING.
‘LISTEN TO HER SHOUTING IN PAIN - THAT’S ASSAULT’, THE SELF-STYLED HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER IN OFFALY COLOURS DECLARED, TO MUCH AMUSEMENT. ‘LOOK, MR PHOTOGRAPHER, THAT’S WHERE YOU SHOULD BE PHOTOGRAPHING’, HE TOLD A MEMBER OF THE LOCAL MEDIA.

SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, AT LEAST FOUR TRUCKS ARRIVED FROM THE DUBLIN DIRECTION, AND INDICATED THAT THEY WERE TURNING INTO THE SITE. IMMEDIATELY, PROTESTORS STOOD IN FRONT OF THEM, AND SOME SAT DOWN ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THEM. THEY COULDN’T MOVE, AND THE TRAFFIC TAILBACKS ON BOTH SIDES GREW AND GREW.

CONSTRUCTION WORK BOSSES TOLD THEIR WORKERS NOT TO TALK TO ANY OF THE PROTESTORS, SOME OF WHOM WERE SHOUTING AT THEM. ONE WOMAN HANDING OUT LEGAL REASONS AS TO WHY THE WORK WAS ILLEGAL GAVE UP IN EXASPERATION WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO SPEAK TO ONE OF THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS. ‘LOOK, HE DOESN’T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH’, SHE SAID. ANOTHER PROTESTOR SHOUTED “BRING BACK ETA,” A REFERENCE TO THE BASQUE TERRORIST GROUP IN SPAIN. THE CONSORTIUM BUILDING THE ROAD IS AN IRISH-SPANISH GROUP.

A PROTESTOR PLAYED A THIN WHISTLE. ‘RED IS THE ROSE’ WAS HIS FAVORITE TUNE. WHEN HE PLAYED ‘A NATION ONCE AGAIN’ THE PROTESTORS JOINED IN.

THE GARDAI, WHO HAD EARLIER DEPARTED THE SCENE, WERE CALLED AGAIN. AWHILE LATER, THEY ARRIVED; THREE AT FIRST, WHO INFORMED THE PROTESTORS THAT THEY WERE CAUSING AN OBSTRUCTION.
THEY WEREN’T, ACCORDING TO THE PROTESTOR’S HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER. THEY WEREN’T PREVENTING THE TRUCKS FROM DRIVING ON THE N3 TO NAVAN IF THEY WANTED. IT WASN’T THEIR FAULT THE LORRIES WERE STOPPED THERE.

A FOURTH GARDA ARRIVED, WITH THE GARDA VAN. IT WAS TIME TO MAKE ARRESTS, THEY DECIDED. SOME PROTESTORS MOVED AWAY WITHOUT TROUBLE. OTHERS MADE A SCENE. THE PROTESTOR WHO HAD EARLIER REMARKED THAT THE WORKER DIDN’T SPEAK ENGLISH WANTED THE GARDAI TO TALK TO HER IN IRISH, AS WAS HER RIGHT. CONSULTATIONS TOOK PLACE AMONGST THE GARDAI, WHO DECIDED IT WAS GET-TOUGH TIME.

MUIREANN NI BHROLCHAIN WAS THE FIRST ARRESTED AND BROUGHT TO THE GARDA VAN, PROTESTING THAT SHE WAS EXPECTING A PHONE CALL FROM THE BBC.

THE TIN WHISTLER WAS NEXT,AS HE RAN AROUND LORRIES SAYING HE WASN’T OBSTRUCTING ANYBODY. ALSO ARRESTED WAS A GIRL SITTING IN THE ENTRANCEWAY SAYING SHE HAD A RIGHT TO SIT THERE AS SHE WAS A DRUID, AND SHE CURSED EVERYBODY AROUND HER FOR GENERATIONS.

J P FAY, SPORTING A GREEN PARTY UMBRELLA, WHO HAS BEEN LIVING IN A VAN IN THE HILL OF TARA CAR PARK FOR MANY MONTHS, WAS ALSO ARRESTED, AS HE DECLARED IT WAS AGAINST EUROPEAN LAWS. LATER, THREE MORE PROTESTORS WERE ARRESTED, AND FERRIED ALONG TO JUDGE BROPHY’S SITTING OF NAVAN DISTRICT COURT. FURTHER GARDAI ARRIVED FROM NAVAN AND DUNSHAUGHLIN TO OVERSEE THE TRAFFIC MOVEMENT ALONG THE BUSY STRETCH OF ROAD.

AFTER THAT, IT WAS TIME FOR THE BATTLE OF THE PRESS RELEASES, AS BOTH SIDES CLAIMED ASSAULT - THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS FROM THE PROTESTORS AND THE PROTESTORS FROM THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS.

AND THE TV CAMERAS HAD ARRIVED, ALONG WITH INDEPENDENT MEP KATHY SINNOTT, VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE EU PETITIONS COMMITTEE, FRESH FROM HANDING OVER 12,000 SIGNATURES AGAINST THE MOTORWAY ROUTE TO THE PETITIONS COMMITTEE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT. MS SINNOTT CONDUCTED A NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS WITH THE TELEVISION CREWS BEFORE BEING ASKED TO MOVE HER CAR FROM BESIDE THE ENTRANCE TO THE SITE AS IT WAS ALSO CREATING PROBLEMS.

*Comment below on ANOTHER ARREST-26 JULY 07/'S'

These are targetted arrests.
Solidarity!

Please be careful of yourselves and keep all legal documentation.
Aodh is well able to look after himself but am concerned that
he is isolated somewhat from the group of 7.

Is it possible that he wd have same legal rep?

Also wanted to know if a court report from yesterday is going up and
to state this:-

The use of bail and criminal charges is as far as I am aware
precedent. Usually the named injunction and contempt order
is how the CC/Developer Proceeds. this is a cause of concern.
I do not believe that people should be criminalised for
non-violent direct action.

SIX ENVIROMENTAL PROTESTERS ARRESTED AT M3 SITES
Six conservationists were arrested this morning at the site of the

A number of the protesters were injured when security contractors

The protesters have been demanding that all work stop in the Valley

One such activist is called John Quigley. Although American, his

He wants to do an aerial art piece for Tara at the Equinox -September

If you don't mind I would love to introduce you to him and let him

The Valley of The White Mare

Your Presence is Urgently Needed On
