Hi folks,

I was reading about Heirloom seeds and a when doing a google search found this...

I suppose it makes sense, 'just in case'?

Only thing is, living in a big city you can guess what happens if one person has a garden bursting with food and is surrounded by hungry / starving neighbours who can see everything thats growing....

http://www.seedfest....s/auctions.html

All comments welcomed!

(well, almost all LOL  )

Wow, thats a polytube and a half! Must extend the growing season somewhat...

At this of the year our apple / pear / plum trees are buckling under the weight of the still growing fruit, the runner beans are being eaten raw, I've eaten so many blackberries that my stomach started to protest (altho' I can now run a mile in under a minute  ) and the first of the figs are ripening.

But even though there is now no more space in the freezer for blackberries this is still 'hobbyist' cultivation which only scratches the surface of what you are doing.

There is still time, and who knows where I'll be in a couple of years from now???

The website has some interesting info on saving seeds - no doubt monsanto wont like this being available online...

Simon

ps, ever tried using pyramids to preserve food / stop it from going off?

Yo Simon,
...'Poly tunnel'. I knew you meant that :)
Yeah...have some apple trees but no pear.
...Gather the WILD blackberries, have to KNOW the good places. Live with Nature Huh?
Monsanto...is actually 'going around' smashing, buying off, and Stalking the people who go to farms and 'save the seeds'. Imagine, and NO ONE in government is prosecuting for this. That's because they are all in leg step with Monsanto. Someone should declare open warfare and 'go after' Monsanto. Vigilante style I'm suggesting....and more with their production plants/buildings.
Yeah 'Pyramids'...not too successful with them 'preserving'. They do seem to AGE CHEESE quicker.
Carry on 'speeding'. I can usually only think I'm running 'a mile a minute' during hectic show/business days. Tah/'S'

Seth, maybe hares, not rabbits? as in the green veg will be 'hair today, gone tomorrow' :)

btw, in the garden yesterday I spotted a couple of apples on the ground under the tree. On closer inspection I saw that one was rotten (it went straight into the compost) but apart from a hole near the top the other one looked OK. So I took it to the kitchen, put it on a plate and started cutting it up. Inside most of the fruit was fine, although an earwig ran out from a section where there was some unsavoury looking black gung.

*Morning Seth,
...Guess you'd have to be here to see for yourself. It's enclosed of course...no rabbits, except those running ALL AROUND on the grounds.
Oh 'Wildlife'...you mean like feeding the wild birds 4-6 times a day, having pheasants, squirrels, foxes, even Deer around every day?
**What you up to? Still 'Pissed off' at your work mates for not noticing your Haircut? Think you overlooked/?ignored a lot of the Comments/photos on the 'Hair today gone tomorrow' Topic.
Anyway...good to have you around. ? send an E-mail. Best cheers/'S' :)

*Yelp Simon,
...Don't mention 'EARWIGS'. Got a NASTY bite from one...big red blotch on my leg...still being treated/dressed everyday.
**Yeah to the 'EMOTICON' need. Have to look into more of them. Thanks/'S'

surely not Seth? although that said, I often buy confectionery with these seeds in - supposed to be very nutritious!

The one good thing about whats coming is that people will realise the need to put growing food over and above things they can burn and smoke.

*Nutritious and helps one dance better Simon,
...'Different strokes for different folks' though Simon. Lots of peoples priorities will include forms of gradification to deal with/rid them of 'OPPRESSIVE REALITY'. Have to throw some Peyote Buttons into the 'Tunnel'/'S' :D

The last of the home grown runner beans have just been harvested.

But, we grow to eat 'there and then', not store for year-round consumption.
