Shigeru…became the second member of the Cabinet to state an ‘absolute’ belief in UFOs, and said he was looking at how Japan's military could respond to aliens under their pacifist Constitution.
‘There are no grounds for us to deny that there are unidentified flying objects [UFOs] and some life-form that controls them’, Ishiba told reporters
He says it was his personal view…and not necessarily that of the Defense Ministry.
Ishiba’s nickname is something similar to… ‘security geek’ for his working knowledge of Defense affairs…has noted ‘half jokingly’ that Japan deployed its military against Godzilla in the classic monster movie.
‘Few discussions have been made on what the legal grounds were for that’… the minister said with a slight grin, drawing laughter from reporters.
But…Ishiba said he was examining different scenarios for dealing with an alien invasion.
‘If they descended, saying `People of the Earth…let's make friends,' it would not be considered an urgent, unjust attack on our country" Ishiba has said.
Further he states…’And there is another issue of how can we convey our intentions if we don't understand what they are saying’.
And…’We should consider various possibilities’, he said. ‘There is no need at all to do this as the Defense Ministry… but I want to consider what to do by myself’.
Ishiba's remarks came after the Tokyo government this week said it had no knowledge of UFOs…But that statement prompted a strong and surprise rebuttal from the top government spokesman.
‘Personally he said…I absolutely believe they exist’.
Science Minister ALSO joins in the UFO debate:
Education and Science Minister Kisaburo Tokai said during a press conference held Friday he hoped aliens existed, so children would become more interested in space.
‘They exist, don’t they? It would be fun if they did’. Tokai became the third member of the Cabinet to make his views on UFOs official in a debate sparked by a question to the Cabinet by Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) lawmaker Ryuji Yamane.
The cabinet started its regular meeting Friday with a lively discussion about UFOs’ “As long as it doesn’t scare people, I think it is fine to talk about UFOs,” Tokai was quoted as saying by the Yomiuri Shimbun.
‘There have been films like ‘ET.’ It might make children grow up with an interest in space’.
Tokai’s comments came three days after Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura surprised journalists by exclaiming he ‘definitely believes in the existence of UFOs’… and a day after Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed concern over legal issues if Japan’s Self-Defense Forces would have to respond to an alien invasion.
